After IGP's denial, MP urges ex-top cop Hamid to explain 'police cartel' claims

In making the call, Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran said this following another denial by Hamid's (above) successor, Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, on the existence of cartels when it comes to determining promotions within the force.
“The IGP’s statement is alarming. The fact that he and his predecessor are contradicting each other openly is a serious matter.
“This cannot be swept under the carpet. It must be properly investigated. This is why Hamid cannot remain silent after the denial by the IGP,” Kulasegaran said in a statement today.
“The issue has become a matter of public interest and Malaysians need to know if there is any truth in the allegations,” he said.
On April 1, Acryl Sani had once again reportedly denied Hamid’s claims made several months before the latter’s retirement in May last year.
Hamid, at the time, claimed that there was a movement consisting of young police officers within the force conspiring to get rid of him.
Kula further said he had lodged a police report last year based on Hamid's claims but was not informed of any outcome from the investigations.
“This is where the problem starts - police investigating themselves. This points to an obvious need for the setting up of the long-proposed Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
“This can play a pivotal role in addressing these concerns and hold the police accountable for any wrongdoing,” he said.
Soon after assuming office in May last year, Acryl Sani had said police would not interfere in investigations on the matter to be carried out by the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission (EAIC).
The claims were also debated in Parliament and the Home Ministry said during a Dewan Rakyat sitting last November that preliminary investigations showed no evidence to support such a claim.
