Perak Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Mohamad Hairul Amir Sabri has lodged a police report over the sale of a plot of land that has been earmarked for the development of an international airport in Seri Iskandar.
Hairul requested for the police to start an investigation into this matter and reveal the mastermind behind it.
“The police are duty-bound and have the power to probe the proposed airport land deal.
“On March 29, DAP's Aulong state assemblyperson Nga Kor Ming revealed that the proposed airport land was sold without the consent of the state government. The menteri besar said the state government will let the authorities investigate the issue if a report is lodged.
“As a Malaysian and a taxpayer, I have the right to ensure every decision made by the state government related to financial issues is monitored and accountable,” he said in a police report lodged at the Ipoh district police headquarter.
When contacted, Perak DAP Youth chief Steven Chaw demanded that Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad or his predecessors Zambry Abdul Kadir and Ahmad Faizal Azumu explain the matter.
“We are in the dark over the land deal. Our former state executive councillors said the issue was never discussed,” Chaw said.
He added that Perak Harapan will lodge a report with the Perak MACC tomorrow.
“We want the enforcement authorities to look for any possible element of corruption and abuse of power.
“If the airport land is sold via an illegal process, the land must be returned in order to carry on the construction of the planned international airport,” said Chaw.
Selective probes
Meanwhile, Perak MCA committee member Jimmy Loh, in a statement, called on the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to launch a probe into an allocation of RM150 million announced by the Harapan federal government to develop the airport.
He called out PAC chairperson Wong Kah Woh for allegedly being selective when the latter pushed for Perak PAC to investigate the land sale matter.
"It must be noted that the sale of state land for an international airport in Seri Iskandar to a private company was completed during the administration of Harapan. We urge the PAC chairperson Wong Kah Woh to immediately start a probe into the status of the RM150 million allocation intended for the development of the airport.
"Within Budget 2019, former finance minister Lim Guan Eng had included an RM150 million allocation for the airport, whose whereabouts, after the sale of the airport land, had become unclear.
"So far, Wong has pushed the Perak PAC to conduct a hearing on the issue of the sale of land, with the three previous menteri besar as key witnesses; he cannot selectively exclude the allocation from scrutiny," he said.
Loh also challenged the Perak DAP to respond to Saarani's statement that the land was quietly sold when Harapan was in power after it was reserved for the airport by Barisan Nasional.
Last Thursday, Saarani said the land, which was reserved for state-owned Perak State Development Corporation for the development of an international airport, had been sold to a private company.
He said the sale happened during the Pakatan Harapan administration, which was in power from 2018 to 2020.
However, Perak Amanah chairperson Asmuni Awi, who was part of the Harapan-led Perak government, said the sale was never discussed.
