The police have reclassified investigations on the alleged harassment of two journalists by a security guard.
According to The Vibes, this was confirmed by Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigations Department (CID) chief Habibi Majinji.
Habibi told The Vibes that he personally reclassified investigations after going through the facts.
He said investigations will now be conducted under Section 160 of the Penal Code, which criminalises those involved in an "affray".
Violators can be jailed for up to six months, fined up to RM1,000 or both.
Prior to Habibi's intervention, the Dang Wangi police had classified the case as "refer to magistrate".
"To me, there were elements that warranted an initial investigation under Section 160 (of the Penal Code) at this point.
"We will have to investigate to find out which side is at fault and if there are any criminal elements, as both parties have come forward to lodge police reports," he said.
Two of The Vibes' journalists were harassed by a security guard on Saturday at the Pudu Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).
The duo were harassed while interviewing several individuals who were lining up for their passports.
The securing guard claimed that the journalists were not allowed to take photographs or talk to those lining up without formal approval.
Apart from verbal abuse, the security guard was also accused of snatching one of the journalist's handphone.
The two journalists were investigating claims that the queues at Immigration Department counters were unusually long.
