The authorities have been urged to speed up their investigation into the death of university student S Vinosiny as her family is still waiting for a clear answer, said the family’s lawyer M Manoharan.
He told Malaysiakini that Vinosiny's father, R Sivakumar Rajoo gave his statement to the police in Kedah yesterday afternoon for about two hours.
He said they then proceeded to Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) where the family held a prayer session in Vinosiny’s hostel room.
“The family had final prayers for the deceased Vinosiny. Police were present throughout the prayer session.
“The father also has retrieved all the personal belongings of Vinosiny from the room,” Manoharan (above, second left) said.
Vinosiny died in her dorm room at UUM's Sintok, Kedah campus on May 21.
The accounting student was suspected to have suffered a fatal electric shock, something which the family claimed was backed by injuries on her body and the post-mortem findings.
UUM has been accused of not being forthcoming regarding the circumstances of her death. However, the university apologised to the family on May 31 and vowed full cooperation with the family to find out the truth.
Upon arriving at the university yesterday, Manoharan said Sivakumar was met by a small welcome reception (above).
Present were UUM’s deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, Bukit Kayu Hitam police chief Saiful Hasnol Salehhudin, and UUM security officers.
However, the lawyer said they went straight to Vinosiny’s hostel room.
“We refused to be entertained so we went straight to the hostel.
“After visiting the room, the father is still not happy with the alleged cause of death of his beloved daughter.
“I urged the police officer present to speed up the investigation and I want the inquest to be commenced as soon as possible. The family needs a clear answer and clarity on her death,” he stressed.
