PKR to postpone party congress to July - source
A PKR insider told Malaysiakini that the decision was made by PKR central leadership in a meeting yesterday to postpone the congress so that a forensic audit exercise could be carried out on its recently concluded election, which had received many objections.
PKR's leadership has agreed to postpone the party's national congress that was scheduled to take place at the end of this month to July, according to party sources.
A PKR insider told Malaysiakini that the decision was made by PKR central leadership in a meeting yesterday to postpone the congress so that a forensic audit exercise could be carried out on its recently concluded election, which had received many objections.
It was claimed that the new date for the congress would be from July 15 to July 17.
"The meeting yesterday agreed to postpone our national congress so that the party can carry out a forensic audit on the party election process," the source said.
Malaysiakini has contacted PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for comment.
For the record, among those who had been pushing for a forensic audit on the party election is Farhash Wafa Salvador, who is a former political secretary to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
He had asked the party not to have its national congress until the audit exercise was concluded.
According to unofficial vote counts, Farhash has lost to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari in his run for the Gombak PKR division chief post.
This would be the third time that this year's PKR national congress has been postponed. It was supposed to be held between June 24 and June 26 at IDCC Shah Alam.
Besides the issue of PKR's dismal performance in four state elections between 2020 and last March, this year's congress would also see the election for 20 central leadership posts.
Meanwhile, the source also said that the PKR leadership meeting yesterday decided to announce the party's election results on June 21.
