Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has been urged to be honest and transparent with PAS about his negotiations with other parties.
According to Utusan Malaysia, the call was made by former Malacca PAS chief Kamarudin Sedik in response to Muhyiddin’s “negotiations” with non-BN parties on an electoral pact.
“If (Muhyiddin) was merely discussing matters concerning Bersatu, we will not interfere. But if they are negotiating with anyone, don’t drag PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in.
“If (discussions) involved Malay parties such as Pejuang, then I believe PAS is open to it,” said Kamarudin.
He said PAS was adamant that it will not work with PKR or DAP.
Two days ago, Muhyiddin revealed that he has been meeting leaders of non-BN parties on an informal basis to discuss a possible pact for the next general election.
Since April, Muhyiddin had said the results of the Malacca and Johor state elections proved there was a need to reduce multi-cornered fights to defeat BN and prevent “the return of kleptocrats”.
Muhyiddin’s backchannelling with other parties comes amidst talks of the opposition adopting a “big tent” strategy to unite the opposition against BN and PN.
