The case against former PKR senator Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail over a viral video clip on subsidies has been classified as “no further action”, said her lawyer Adly Zulfadhly Zulkefly today.

"We completed the police statement in just 10 minutes. The Bukit Aman CID legal division (D5) confirmed that her case was classified as 'NFA'," he told Malaysiakini.

In a statement later, Siti Aishah said the police made the decision because the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has opened another investigation paper on the same video.

Lauding the move, she said the police have more important issues to look into.

“This is a victory for the people. Don't be afraid to criticise those in power... rise to save this nation from cruel leaders who use the democratic space as a tool to silence the people.

“Intimidation will not dampen the fighting spirit,” she added.

The former one-term senator was initially asked to go to the federal police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on July 4 for her statement to be recorded.

However, she requested a date after Hari Raya Aidiladha, to which the police agreed.

This was related to a viral recording on TikTok claiming that various subsidies would be abolished from July 1, which could result in public anger against the government.

On June 27, Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said a MCMC officer had quizzed Siti Aishah over the matter.
