'War on BN': No need to warn us, Bersatu leader tells Takiyuddin

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan's warning against declaring Umno as an enemy is not necessary, a Bersatu leader declared.

Bersatu supreme council member Razali Idris said his party had never warned PAS about engaging Umno as they celebrate differences in opinion.

"I think Takiyuddin did not need to warn Bersatu against calling BN its political enemy.

"We (Bersatu) accept their decision, accept PAS wanting to be with Umno, talk with Umno, and we have never given them any warnings," Razali (above) told Malaysiakini.

As such, he said PAS should also accept Bersatu's views on BN.

Razali added that for such matters, it would have been better to air the grievances at the Perikatan Nasional supreme council.

On Monday, Takiyuddin said that PAS could not accept anyone who labelled a Malay-Muslim group as its "main enemy".

It was a veiled response to Bersatu and PN chief Muhyiddin Yassin, who had declared BN as the coalition's main enemy in the 15th general election.

While Muhyiddin said that all PN parties agreed to this, it contradicted PAS' declaration last week that Pakatan Harapan was their “real enemy”.

Despite the ideological clash being a potential crisis for the PN, Razali sought to downplay its impact.

He said that PAS still remained firm in PN and there was no need to blow the matter out of proportion.

Muhyiddin said yesterday that he expected PAS would set a "cut-off" date to decide on its future with PN, and whether or not it would continue engaging with Umno.

PAS' efforts to negotiate with Umno are part of its ummah unity agenda to bring together Malay-Muslim political parties to form the government.

The party's spiritual leader Hashim Jasin told Malaysiakini that there were obstacles to achieving this goal, but PAS remained optimistic.

"There are obstacles, but we still have time to negotiate, discuss and find consensus on several issues that we can likely resolve," Hashim said.
