An Umno leader has pondered whether Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob still has the support of 12 cabinet ministers from Perikatan Nasional.

This comes after the 12 penned a petition to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to hold off the next general election until flood season was over.

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki raised the question because only the prime minister has the right to advise the Agong on the dissolution of Parliament.

"(Moreover) according to Article 43 of the Federal Constitution, a prime minister who loses support of the majority (MPs) can advise the Agong to dissolve Parliament or tender his resignation.

"I am confident the prime minister has the wisdom to make a decision based on the Federal Constitution.

"What are the thoughts of constitutional experts on this?" Asyraf (above) wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.

Ismail Sabri came under intense pressure from his own party to advise the Agong to dissolve Parliament.

This was despite advice by the Meteorological Department that it would be better to hold off the general election due to the risk of adverse weather conditions.

The current parliamentary term only expires next July.
