Electoral reform pressure group Bersih invited Malaysians to participate in the upcoming 15th general election as observers.

In an advertisement, the group said they need 100 volunteers to monitor the elections to ensure that the process is carried out in a "clean and fair" manner.

Among others, Bersih said volunteers must be Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above, fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and be non-partisan.

The volunteers, Bersih said, would not be receiving any monetary rewards for participating in the initiative.

They will be trained and get registered with the Election Commission as an election observer.

According to the EC website, the closing date for applications to be accredited as an election monitor is Oct 21.

Election monitors will only be able to observe their own constituencies.

The stated objective of an election monitor was to create public confidence in the integrity of the election process, report election malpractices and help improve the election process by providing feedback after the election.
