After Dr M's olive branch, Anwar says no issue meeting him

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim said he has no issue meeting with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the latter reportedly extended an olive branch to him earlier today.

“There is no issue, we can meet, we can discuss.

“But I’ve always emphasised what is important is why are we fighting BN/PN? (Because of) the policies… we reject corruption, reject extreme racialisation and (we focus on) the question of good governance,” he said.

Anwar was speaking to reporters when met at a Deepavali event in Klang, Selangor, today.

He said he has no problem working with anyone as long as they are fighting for those same issues.

Earlier today, Mahathir said he is prepared to meet Anwar to explore the possibility of forming a political pact as they share a common goal.

“I am prepared to meet Anwar because I believe we have the same (goals). If I have to make the first gesture, I will do it. Some might say I am shameless, but it does not affect me.

“To me, what is important is that we (work together to) stop those who are trying to destroy the country,” he said.

Previously, Anwar implied that there might still be an opportunity to cooperate with Mahathir and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

However, other coalition partners swiftly dismissed it, saying it was not even remotely possible.
