Speaking to reporters after the Terengganu Bersatu leadership meeting in Kuala Terengganu today, Razali (above) said he wanted to give way to more qualified individuals.
He added that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has been informed of his wishes.
"For now, I wish to focus on my job as a senator. I have two more years left.
"I will perform my (party) duties as usual and support all Perikatan Nasional candidates in Terengganu," he said, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Razali is currently in his second three-year term as a senator. His tenure expires on Aug 26, 2024. He was appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the prime minister.
Razali made his electoral debut in 2018 when he was fielded as a Pakatan Harapan candidate for Hulu Terengganu. He was not able to keep his deposit.
Previously, Razali told Malaysiakini that incumbent Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid will be retaining the seat.
After winning the seat on a BN ticket, Rosol defected to Bersatu.
