PKR has enlisted Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, son of the late PAS spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, as the party's 15th general election candidate, alongside six others comprising academics, youth leaders and former civil servants.

Nik Omar, a former PAS member, contested the Chempaka state seat as an Amanah member in GE14, but this time PKR president Anwar Ibrahim announced that he has been assigned a seat in Perak.

"We are showing our seriousness to feature individuals with credibility," said Anwar during a press conference together with the candidates and PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

Six of the seven candidates were present at the PKR headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today - Nik Omar (above), former senior civil servant Zainal Azman Abu Seman who served as the Perak state secretary, former Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin vice-chancellor Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan, Universiti Malaya’s Medical Faculty senior lecturer Dr Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz, former Malaysia Youth Council president Jufitri Joha, and Sabah stateless activist Fathin Amelia Fazlie.

The seventh new candidate, who was absent, is former Lembaga Zakat Selangor chief executive officer Saipulyazan Yusop.

Anwar said that each candidate has been assigned a state but the final announcement on their seats will only be made on Friday.

Aside from Nik Omar, Zainal will be fielded in Perak, Hassan (Pahang), Noraishah (Federal Territories), Saipulyazan (Selangor), Jufitri (Negeri Sembilan) and Fathin (Perlis).

From the list, it was previously speculated that Jufitri would be fielded in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, to face off against BN's candidate, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan.

'Ampang stalemate?'

Meanwhile, Anwar said a final announcement for PKR's candidate in Ampang will also be made this Friday, responding to reports quoting sources that the party has yet to decide between vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and incumbent Batu Tiga assemblyperson Rodziah Ismail.

Nurul Izzah, the incumbent Permatang Pauh MP, is speculated to contest in Ampang, identified as a "traitor seat" targeted by PKR.
