Maszlee: Give matriculation students, trainee teachers leave to vote too

Former education minister Maszlee Malik has urged for leave to be given to other types of tertiary students and trainee teachers so that they have time to vote in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

“Hopefully the Education Ministry will give the matriculation students, trainee teachers from the Institute of Teacher Education and students at vocational colleges the same leave as students in higher learning institutions for polling day,” Maszlee said, in a brief posting on his Facebook last night.

It was previously reported that the Higher Education Ministry has agreed to give students in higher learning institutions a five-day leave starting Nov 17 to return to their respective hometowns to vote in GE15.

A circular on the matter was distributed to all public and private institutes, including the Polytechnic and Community College Education Department for further action.

According to the circular, all classes and student activities during that period should be postponed and held on another date.

The Election Commission has set Nov 19 for polling, while the nomination is on Nov 5 and early voting is on Nov 15.
