It appears that Perak Muda chairperson Mutalib Uthman has gone rogue with the precipitous announcement of his candidacy for the Tapah parliamentary seat in the looming 15th general election (GE15).

In a statement today, Muda information chief Luqman Long, however, stressed that the Tapah parliamentary constituency belongs to Pakatan Harapan.

Entering an electoral pact with Harapan, Luqman said it was the commitment of both parties to avoid any overlapping of seats.

“Any statements that contradict the commitment of Muda-Harapan is not an official statement from Muda.

“Muda elections director, Amira Aisya will also be making an announcement on several more seats including in Sabah on Monday, Oct 31 and in Muar on Wednesday, Nov 2.

“The official seats for Muda will only be announced by Amira,” he said in a statement today.

As of Saturday, Luqman said Muda has announced three seats in the parliamentary constituencies of Kepala Batas, Tanjong Karang and Tanjung Piai.

“The negotiations regarding the number of seats were also finalised on Oct 29.”

Earlier, Mutalib (above) claimed that he will be contesting in the Tapah parliamentary seat this coming national polls.

According to a statement, Mutalib claimed the decision was made after PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s statement on the status of Tapah, Sungai Siput and Sembrong seats for the political pact with Muda and PSM.

“For the record, the Tapah parliament seat is a rural seat and is BN stronghold, that is currently held by the Human Resources Minister M Saravanan.

“To respond to the call, I, Mutalib Uthman will humbly be a candidate in Tapah,” the Muda co-founder said.

Mutalib has since deleted the Facebook post announcing his candidacy.

In an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini yesterday, Rafizi said Harapan has made its decision regarding the electoral pact with Muda and PSM.

He said the decision has been conveyed to Muda, while for PSM, it will be communicated to the party by today.

Previously, it was understood that PKR vice-president K Saraswathy is expected to be fielded in Tapah under the Harapan banner.
