The issue of the Changkat Jong state seat in Perak, which has seen a clash between DAP and Amanah as both parties announced candidates for the constituency, will be handled by Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim.

This is according to Amanah president Mohamad Sabu when asked about the matter this evening.

He said the party leaves it to Anwar to deal with Perak Amanah chief Asmuni Awi.

"On the issue of Changkat Jong, we leave the matter to the Harapan chairperson to have a final discussion with our state chief Asmuni," Mohamad, who is also known as Mat Sabu, told Malaysiakini after a press conference at the Amanah headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

When asked why they are leaving it to Anwar and Asmuni instead of between party presidents, Mohamad said it was because they want to "let only one person which is the Harapan chief to discuss" the issue.

Two days ago, Amanah announced that it will field Muhaimin Sulam at Changkat Jong. Hours later, DAP announced they were fielding Badrul Hisham Badarudin there.

The issue then led to conflicting claims with Muhaimin, who is Perak Amanah vice-chairperson, saying that he had received a letter from the party president confirming that he is the Harapan candidate for the seat.

However, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke claimed that Mohamad had agreed that DAP would be assigned to Changkat Jong.
