Perak Muda chief apologises over Tapah gaffe, will fight another 'minister'

Perak Muda chief Mutalib Uthman has apologised for claiming to be the party's candidate for Tapah.

In a Facebook post last night, he admitted fault and toed the line that Tapah would be contested by PKR.

"I apologise for all mistakes that have occurred. Admitting fault, and apologising, are signs of a brave soul," Mutalib (above) said.

Mutalib had announced his candidacy for Tapah yesterday afternoon but this announcement was quickly shot down by the Muda leadership.

The Tapah seat is currently held by MIC deputy president and Human Resources Minister M Saravanan, who held onto the seat in 2018 with a slim 614 vote majority in a three-cornered fight.

Saravanan's vote share that year was 44.5 percent.

Despite not getting to contest in Tapah, Mutalib said he would still be a candidate in the 15th general election.

"I will contest in a rural seat held by a different minister," he said.

It is still not clear where he would contest.

All parliamentary seats in Perak have already been claimed by Pakatan Harapan parties.

Besides Tapah, PKR has also laid claim to Sungai Siput and Sembrong - the two other seats it was still negotiating with PSM and Muda up until yesterday.
