PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged deputy president Rafizi Ramli to stop making public statements about the party’s candidate selection process for the 15th general election (GE15).

“The party has made its decision. Respect and comply (with it). Avoid making statements about the reasons, arguments, or who was behind any decision made.

“The candidates have been finalised. That was the decision made together, a party decision. Not every internal party discussion needs to be publicised. The party process should be respected,” Saifuddin Nasution said to Malaysiakini.

He was commenting on Rafizi’s statement yesterday that he differed with party president Anwar Ibrahim on candidate selection.

Rafizi had said that he and the candidate selection committee initially proposed incumbent R Sivarasa to defend the Sungai Buloh seat in the coming polls, but Anwar had a “different opinion”.

PKR previously announced that it will field its deputy information chef R Ramanan in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat.

This announcement caused unease among members and supporters who urged for Sivarasa to be retained or for another candidate to be chosen, especially after BN announced Khairy Jamaluddin as their candidate for that seat.

Rafizi said PKR decided to retain Ramanan as a candidate in Sungai Buloh after considering the feedback they received.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the best thing they can do now is to focus on the strategy to win GE15.

“Move forward and focus on the machinery. Mobilise and get in touch with as many voters as possible with the right message.

“There is not much time left,” Saifuddin Nasution said.

Nomination day will take place tomorrow (Nov 5) while polling day is fixed for Nov 19.
