Azwan joins GE15 race to 'bury' brother Azmin in Gombak

Controversial celebrity Azwan Ali will contest as an independent against his brother Azmin in the Gombak parliamentary seat for the 15th general election.

Jumping into the fray, Azwan is confident that Azmin will be "buried", come polling day on Nov 19.

He urged Gombak constituents to "open their minds" before casting their ballots.

"This is not a question of (any) party, but (it's about) dignity. We can't buy dignity.

"If someone betrays what he has been preaching about for years, it's like his dignity is gone with the wind.

"So how can someone like Azmin be respected any longer?" the flamboyant artist also known as Diva AA told Malaysiakini.

Aside from his brother, Azwan (above) will face off against Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, who's representing Pakatan Harapan. Azmin is representing Perikatan Nasional (PN).

On his feelings about going against the two big names, Azwan said he "can't wait to do so".

‘Not propaganda’

Azwan is expected to file his application at the nomination centre in SMK Sungai Pasu, Gombak, tomorrow morning.

"I'm a bit nervous, but tomorrow I will tell you why I'm contesting in GE15. I'm ready to take any questions.

"This is not propa (propaganda). There are a lot of parties who have been asking me to go against Azmin, this is an ongoing thing. They can't wait to witness our clash," he added.

According to Azwan, he would rather "lose" to Amirudin, whom he has yet to meet in person.

"I may not have met him, but he respects me a lot, calling me brother (and so on). I am deeply touched.

"I went against Azmin in the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat in GE14 and garnered only 90 votes. If I lose again, life will still go on.

"(But) that was because Azmin was with PKR, now he's with another party (Bersatu)," he said.
