Najib out of sight, but not his favourite snack

GE15 | On Amazon.com, "Super Ring" is described as a snack which can rekindle childhood memories for Malaysians and Singaporeans.

In Malaysian politics, however, it is associated with Najib Abdul Razak, who is now serving a 12-year prison sentence.

When he was a free man and a social media icon, the former premier often trolled his political rivals, and on a number of occasions, was photographed munching on the cheese-flavoured snack when doing so.

So it comes as no surprise that "Super Ring" made an appearance on nomination day for the 15th general election, which is the first national polls Najib would be missing since 1976.

Pakatan Harapan supporters accompanying DAP’s Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali to the nomination centre for the Ayer Hitam seat in Johor brought several packets of the snack.

So when BN supporters taunted them, they responded by eating "Super Ring" and asking, “Mana Bossku? (Where is Bossku?).”

Earlier, Ayer Hitam incumbent and MCA president Wee Ka Siong’s supporters mocked Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong, chanting “Chin Tong lari” (Chin Tong has fled).

In the last general election, Liew rattled the three-term incumbent. The latter managed to hold on with a razor-thin advantage of 303 votes.

When DAP announced that it was fielding Sheikh Umar instead, an “upset” Wee called Liew a “runaway” candidate.

He claimed that Liew had pledged to contest the seat again.

This time, the MCA president would be embroiled in a three-way tussle, which includes Perikatan Nasional’s Muhammad Syafiq A Aziz.

As for Najib, he is forced to follow the election updates from within the walls of Kajang Prison.

However, he may find a little consolation in knowing that his son Mohd Nizar would be contesting the Peramu Jaya state seat under the Pekan parliamentary seat in Pahang.

Previously, it was speculated that Nizar would be fielded to defend the Pekan seat which was held by his father and grandfather for more than six decades.
