GE15 | Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has denied claims that he is a "shadow" of Bersatu supreme council member Azmin Ali.

Instead, Amirudin thinks that the former PKR deputy president has "deviated" from the original struggle and went on to form an unstable government.

The duo was seen as having a mentor-protege relationship when Azmin was still with PKR.

"That is an old story. I stopped following him more than two years ago. (I'm now) loyal to Pakatan Harapan's cause, and because the coalition has a clear policy for the country's prosperity and well-being.

"He (Azmin) deviated to another path and went on to form an unstable government. If I had shadowed him, I would have gone anywhere with him," Amirudin told reporters after filing his nomination today.

However, Amirudin, who is also Sungai Tua assemblyperson, refused to divulge his plans for Gombak, should he win the seat in GE15.

'I will continue working hard'

Meanwhile, Azmin, who is contesting for his third term, said he has an added advantage (to win the seat) as the incumbent.

"The voters are mature enough to see which candidate can give the best service to them.

"God willing, the reception (for him) has been very welcoming. But I must continue to work hard," he said, adding this is because the voters want lawmakers who can provide them with a clean, understanding, and stable government.

Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, the BN candidate for the seat, said "anything" can happen during the two weeks of campaigning.

"Nothing is impossible. For instance, people would never have thought that BN would lose in the 14th general election.

"And it is also not impossible for BN to return as the (Selangor) state government in the state polls."

The Gombak parliamentary seat is set to witness a five-way clash after the Election Commission's returning officer Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz confirmed receiving the nominations of five candidates.

The five are Azmin (Perikatan Nasional), Amirudin (Harapan), Megat (BN), Aziz Jamaludin Mhd Tahir (GTA), and Zulkifli Ahmad (independent).
