Stung by 'Malay tsunami', Johor MB asks Zahid to step down

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been urged to resign immediately following BN’s poor showing in the 15th general election (GE15).

Firing the first shot, Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi (above, right) said Zahid (above, left) needs to step down just like Najib Abdul Razak did after GE14 in 2018.

He said this will help Umno take the first step to restore and strengthen the party.

“We are all aware that a Malay political tsunami has occurred, where the Malays have rejected Umno. Umno has collapsed.

“Umno and BN only won nine parliamentary seats in Johor. Meanwhile, we did not win a single parliamentary seat in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Malacca, Kelantan, or Terengganu,” he said in a statement today.

In GE15, BN only won nine parliamentary seats in Johor: Parit Sulong, Ayer Hitam, Simpang Renggam, Tenggara, Kota Tinggi, Pengerang, Pontian, Tanjung Piai, and Sembrong.

According to Onn, who is Johor BN’s election operations director, the party’s leadership needs to go back to listening to the voice of the people, though it may be bitter to swallow.

“Many Umno, MCA, and MIC leaders of calibre and potential have died because we do not want to listen to the pulse of the grassroots.

“We all need to be brave enough to make changes for the better, for the future of this party.

“Efforts to restore and improve this party need to start now. If we don’t change now, we won’t win a single seat in the future,” he said.
