Police have arrested a man for allegedly threatening Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah over the matter of choosing the prime minister following the hung Parliament that resulted from the 15th general election. 

Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed said that police received a report at 10.52pm on Nov 21, in which the suspect expressed unhappiness with the king and a certain unnamed corrupt group in a social media posting.

“He also called for the public to hold a demonstration against the king

“On Nov 22 at 10.30pm in Kajang district, a 35-year-old man was detained.

“He has been remanded until Nov 25,” Arjunaidi said.

The case is being probed under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998,  which criminalises online content that is “obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive in character”.

Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, upon conviction.

On Monday, IGP Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the police had discovered social media posts that touched on racial and religious sensitivities following the elections.
