GRS' support for Muhyiddin wavers

Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will accept any decision and advice by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the formation of a unity government.

In a statement today, GRS chief Hajiji Noor said the unity government must be inclusive and include MPs from Sabah and Sarawak.

"To ensure that the country moves forward, we must have political stability to ensure economic development towards national prosperity and harmony among the people," he added.

Just three days ago, GRS had agreed to only back Perikatan Nasional's Muhyiddin Yassin as the 10th prime minister.

At the time, GRS said they were supporting Muhyiddin to ensure that Budget 2023 could be tabled and passed.

GRS is a coalition comprising Sabah Bersatu, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Sabah Progressive Party (Sapp), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) and United Sabah National Organisation (Usno).

After the 15th general election, GRS has six MPs - four from Sabah Bersatu and one each from Star and PBS.

Sabah Bersatu in awkward situation

The coalition's latest position now puts Sabah Bersatu in an awkward situation because Bersatu MPs in other parts of the country are backing Muhyiddin, who is also their president.

As of noon today, it appears increasingly likely that a unity government led by Pakatan Harapan's Anwar Ibrahim will be formed soon after securing the backing of BN's 30 MPs.

Harapan and BN are enough to provide a simple majority. Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is expected to join the unity government as well.
