Tuan Ibrahim: PN optimistic of Nor Idayu's victory in Tioman election

The Perikatan Nasional coalition is optimistic that it will notch up another victory in the polls for the Tioman state seat in Pahang that is set to take place on Dec 7.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said, should the victory be achieved, it would mean that PN would get 18 seats in the state assembly.

“The candidate who will contest, Nor Idayu Hashim (above) from PAS, is indeed very worthy.

“Nor Idayu is a housewife, but has a degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), a Muslim who is very active in PAS Rompin and is very involved in religious and community programmes,” reported Astro Awani.

BN, which had previously been dominant in Pahang, only secured 16 seats in the state, while PN won 17 and Pakatan Harapan bagged eight seats.

Tuan Ibrahim said that the PAS grassroots were very much in agreement for Nor Idayu to be a candidate and thus represent the voice of women in the state assembly.

He explained that the PAS machinery has been on standby for a long time after the Tioman state seat was previously given to a candidate from the party based on an understanding among PN leaders.

“We are determined to win this and I understand through field surveys that PAS is able to overcome the BN candidate, which is the main challenge, and I am confident that we will win,” he said.

He also said that the party was counting on the help and support of voters, especially among young people, including those aged 18.

On Nov 19, Md Yunus Ramli, a local PAS leader who had been selected as the PN candidate, died after suffering a heart attack.

As a result, voting for the seat was postponed to Dec 7.
