BN will support vote of confidence towards Anwar - Zahid

BN will support a vote of confidence motion towards Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim once Parliament is in session on Dec 19 as a way to prove the legitimacy of support for the elected Tambun MP.

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said legitimacy is important to ensure no more questions are raised on Anwar's position.

"Based on the principle to uphold the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree on the appointment of the 10th prime minister, insyaAllah BN will support a motion of confidence towards the prime minister so that his legitimacy is finalised, and parties who disputed it will be silenced.

"Although there are those who said this is a risky move by the new prime minister, this is a democratic process we must go through and BN will give full support in line with the king's decree on the formation of this new government," said the Umno president in a Facebook post today.

Zahid also said BN upholds the king's decree to place national interest above individual and partisan interests.

"BN does not want to engage in constant politickings and instead focus on economic problems faced by the people which must be jointly addressed," he added.

Anwar, in his first press conference since taking the office, said the main agenda for the first parliamentary sitting on Dec 19 will be to table a vote of confidence towards him.

Anwar's announcement was made following Perikatan Nasional's chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin's statement raising doubts over the number of support he received.
