Muhyiddin concedes, alludes to PN as opposition 'check and balance'

Perikatan Nasional (PN) will continue to provide a check and balance role in the incoming unity government, its chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said.

In an unexpected congratulatory statement to the newly minted Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Muhyiddin alluded that his coalition will remain as an opposition bloc.

“With the federal government led by Pakatan Harapan, PN will play a check and balance role in Parliament by bringing the voice of the people in line with the principles of parliamentary democracy,” he said in the statement today.

“Moving forward, PN will continue its crusade for the well-being of the people and the prosperity of the country guided by caring, clean and stable principles.”

This comes after PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said that the party will study Anwar's invitation to join his unity government.

“PAS expresses our gratitude and we will discuss the matter with our PN component partners as well as seek feedback from the voters who have supported PAS and PN during the general election,” he said in a statement.

‘All must persevere’

Meanwhile, PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin thanked voters and its machinery for their hard work.

“The people’s extraordinary support for PN in GE15 proves that the aspirations of the crusade, brand and direction of PN are well received by Malaysians, especially young voters.

“Moving forward, all must persevere and be sincere in continuing the struggle through PN’s crusade, regardless of obstacles and challenges post GE15," he said.

PN secured 73 seats in the just concluded general election, making it the second largest bloc after Harapan with 82 seats.
