'Adulterous govt' remark harsh but PN candidate says no insult to Agong

Perikatan Nasional's Padang Serai candidate Azman Nasrudin today said he recorded a statement at the Kulim Hi-tech police station over his "adulterous government" remarks uttered during a recent campaign trail ceramah.

However, the Kedah state executive councillor denied that his remarks, targeted at Pakatan Harapan and BN's cooperation in the government, were an insult to the royal institution.

"I was referring to the reluctance of grassroots Umno supporters.

"I was a bit harsh that night because the government was newly formed. We saw how Umno leaders were willing to sell the party's struggle at a steal. That is what I meant (by an adulterous government)," Azman (above) said.

"We in PN abide by the decision made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"I was referring to the resolution passed by Umno but yet also ignored by Umno. That had angered the grassroots," he explained when met by reporters today at Kampung Nesa in Padang Serai.

Azman's opponent from BN, C Sivarraajh, shot down his description of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration and he called it a sign of arrogance and an insult to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

It is understood that police reports against Azman over his remark were lodged by Harapan members.

The Agong had decreed the formation of a unity government but PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin's move to reject cooperation with Harapan has left his coalition on the opposition bench in Parliament.
