Selangor Harapan ready to work with BN for state polls - MB

Selangor Pakatan Harapan is willing to work with BN to face the state election, which is expected to be held in the middle of next year.

According to its chairperson Amirudin Shari, the state Harapan is willing to face the polls either alone or with its ally BN.

"We are in the midst of talks with BN and the focus remains on winning the election.

"We would like to repeat what happened at the federal level (both coalitions working together to form the government). Although Selangor is already stable enough, we are not arrogant or greedy (for power).

“If there's room for discussions, we will talk," the menteri besar was quoted as saying by Berita Harian during a press conference at the state legislative assembly today.

Amirudin also commented on the status of the state opposition since BN is now part of the government at the federal level.

"We still have about six months (of state assembly sitting), we will sit again in March, so if there's a change in opposition, it would not be that significant.

"Instead of spending time sorting the seating arrangements in the (state) assembly, we would rather discuss how to sort out seats for the state election," he added.

Focus on Selangor

When asked whether he would take up any position at the federal level, Amirudin said he prefers to remain in Selangor.

"For now, I'm focused on ensuring Harapan's victory in the state election, so I'm not bothered about federal positions, and so on.

"My focus is as Selangor Harapan chief, and state menteri besar. I will make sure Harapan wins the majority and forms the government, as it had done in the last three terms."

If the cooperation happens, it would be a repeat of the formula used by the two coalitions to face the Tioman state seat election in Pahang.

Amanah is giving way to the BN candidate there, in the spirit of the new government, which saw an alliance between Harapan and BN.
