Khairuddin quits as FT Pejuang chief, 'loses confidence' in Mukhriz

Khairuddin Abu Hassan, a loyalist of former Pejuang chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has resigned as the party's central executive council (CEC) member and Federal Territories chief.

In a statement today, Khairuddin (above) cited that he has lost confidence in the leadership of party president Mukhriz Mahathir.

This came after Mahathir resigned from his position as chairperson following Pejuang's defeat in the recently concluded general election.

"I officially resign as the Federal Territories chief and CEC member with immediate effect, without being influenced by any quarter.

"My struggle then, now and forever is based on (my) support for Mahathir, who always remains principled and never cheats in any struggle in order to uphold the truth for the sake of the nation or religion.

"I only provide the best and most reliable service for Mahathir and when his resignation was accepted by the political bureau and made known to CEC on Dec 15, my service in Pejuang is no longer relevant.

"Meanwhile, I have also lost confidence in the leadership of the party president," said Khairuddin.

Khairuddin also announced that the Federal Territories state leadership council has been dissolved.

"On Dec 19, the Federal Territories state leadership council met and arrived at a consensus to dissolve the committee member line-up with immediate effect," he said.

The party fielded 67 candidates for parliamentary seats in GE15, including Mahathir and Mukhriz. All of them lost their deposits.

Just four years ago, Mahathir and Mukhriz were the prime minister and Kedah menteri besar, respectively.

The former premier suffered a crushing defeat in Langkawi where he finished fourth in a five-cornered fight.

Khairuddin, who contested in Titiwangsa parliamentary seat, was defeated by BN's Johari Abdul Ghani in a four-cornered fight.
