Former Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has been appointed the Kedah Regional Development Authority (Keda) chairperson.

Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced this yesterday.

Zahid said Azeez’s (above, left) appointment would strengthen ties between Putrajaya and the Kedah government.

"The allocation for Kedah, especially through (my ministry) and Keda, needs to be implemented (properly) because the performance (of the allocation) will be evaluated, not just by the spending but also by the outcome that the rakyat can feel.

"Public satisfaction is not measured by the number of projects but the benefits the public received," Zahid was reported as saying by Astro Awani.

Keda is one of five regional authorities under the Rural Development Ministry, aimed at developing rural economies by developing entrepreneurs in rural areas.

It provides training and has some funds to build infrastructure. Keda also has subsidiaries in the real estate and hospitality industry.

Azeez is the Kedah Umno deputy chief and was a two-term Baling MP. In GE15, he was defeated by Hassan Saad of PAS.

Meanwhile, Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh has been appointed as the new non-executive chairperson of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), an agency under the Communications and Digital Ministry designed to accelerate Malaysia's digital transformation.

MDEC's press handout cited Syed Ibrahim as a two-term MP and business graduate of the University of Wisconsin and St Louis University.

"Syed Ibrahim has wide experience in the telecommunications industry, having spent 25 years in Telekom Malaysia Bhd," said Mdec.

Syed Ibrahim is a member of PKR's central leadership council and is the deputy head of the party's Johor chapter.
