K'tan should respond to Anwar's invite to resolve water issues - Abim

The Kelantan chapter of the Islamic Youth Movement Malaysia (Abim) has demanded the state government’s immediate response to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call to resolve the state’s water woes together.

State Abim chief Mohd Syahiran Muhammad said they welcomed the commitment Anwar has shown in implementing a comprehensive water supply project for the Kelantan people.

“Aside from aid in the form of injection of funds, Kelantan Abim urges the federal government to also help in the administration of Air Kelantan Sendirian Berhad (AKSB) whose weaknesses PAS leaders have acknowledged themselves.

“Former environment and water minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in his parliamentary answer on July 21, 2022, stated that AKSB’s unsustainable administrative weaknesses caused the entity to face difficulties in providing treated water supply to the people,” Syahiran (above) told Malaysiakini today.

Malaysiakini had previously reported that Anwar expressed the federal government’s commitment to completely solve the water problem that has been plaguing Kelantan for decades.

However, Anwar had said the effort will require full cooperation from the PAS-led state government.

This matter had already been presented to the Kelantan ruler in a meeting with the palace earlier, the prime minister added.

“Kelantan is facing a serious problem with its clean water supply, so I propose that the federal government and the state government work together.

“Let’s meet and cooperate on a water supply project that is comprehensive and meets the needs of the whole of Kelantan,” he said.

Syahiran wants Anwar’s call to be taken seriously and with the spirit of federalism from the state government.

“The state government needs to immediately respond to the prime minister’s open invitation in front of the thousands of Kelantan citizens who attended the event,” he said.
