Prove claims of attempts to oust Perak govt, PAS leader told

Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria was challenged to prove his claims that there have been attempts to change the state government recently.

Perak PKR vice-chief Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad said Razman (above) should furnish proof during the upcoming state legislative assembly sitting which will begin tomorrow.

“I challenge him… during the senator election this Thursday, to prove he has the numbers,” Arafat said.

He said that, on that day, there will be a process in the state assembly to approve the motion to elect a senator to represent Perak in the Dewan Negara.

The Hulu Kinta assemblyperson said it is clear Razman made the claim with the intention of portraying the state government as being unstable.

“Razman has clear intentions of portraying that the Perak unity government is unstable so that investors are less confident and this will affect development, job opportunities, and the economy in the state, which will eventually burden the rakyat.

“Perakians are aware that Razman is an expert in throwing allegations in Perak because, before this, it was proven in court that his statements are accusations and are untrue. So in this matter, it is definitely the same,” Arafat said.

He added that the Perak government led by Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad is strong and stable in focusing on the state’s economic recovery.

‘I do not know’

Earlier today, Razman reportedly claimed that he met with several government-elected representatives, amid speculation of attempts to change the state government.

However, he said he cannot provide any proof regarding the speculation.

“The truth (about the attempt to change governments) cannot be proven. It is like if someone is planning to steal but whether it happens or not, we do not know.

“I do not know whose plans these are, whether they are true or not, but if it is true, then we welcome it.

“I know (there is a movement to topple the state government) because several people (government-elected representatives) have met with me. But of course, I am not going to talk (about it in detail),” he said, as reported by Utusan Online today.

Similar to Putrajaya, Perak is now governed by a coalition government led by the state’s BN chief Saarani.

BN formed the state government after garnering support from Pakatan Harapan last year.

Two days after the 15th general election, Saarani said Perak cannot be left in disarray and the state assembly needed to meet immediately to approve the budget and thus he accepted Harapan’s offer to form a strong and stable government.

Saarani previously denied the existence of any attempt to overthrow the state government.

The Perak state assembly has 59 seats and any party that wants to form government needs to have the support of at least 30 assemblypersons.

After the last general election, BN has nine assemblypersons, while Harapan has 24.

Meanwhile, the opposition has 26 state seats, with 17 from PAS and the rest from Bersatu.

On Dec 29 last year, the Perak state assembly passed an anti-hopping enactment to curb elected representatives shifting their support while in office.
