'Sad' Rosmah says touched by 'justice for Najib' calls

Attending the Umno AGM with her husband behind bars, Rosmah Mansor, wife of former premier Najib Razak, noted calls from party members for his release from prison.

Rosmah said it was undeniable that she felt saddened by Najib's absence from the largest gathering of Umno members.

"I felt touched by the support of party members who attended this AGM.

"I can feel how much they feel for my husband's struggles and how they want him to be freed as soon as possible.

"Deep in their hearts, they know my husband did not receive a fair trial.

"So yesterday, they said they wanted justice for Najib. Thank you to all of them who fought for justice," Rosmah told reporters.

In March, a five-member Federal Court bench rejected Najib's application to review his conviction for the RM42 million in the SRC International corruption case.

After the final verdict, Najib applied with the Pardons Board. Prime Minister's Department Legal Affairs Division director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud on May 1 said the matter would be discussed at another date.

"Thank you to those who fought for justice in this country," said Rosmah.

The appeal to quash her conviction, as well as a 10-year jail sentence and RM970 million fine in a corruption case linked to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid energy project, will be heard on July 1.

Reflecting on Najib's absence, Rosmah said she could recall how he would address Umno members in Dewan Merdeka as then-party president.

"How he would sit up there (on stage) thinking of what to say to the Umno members and what else could be done for the Malays and for Malaysia," said Rosmah.

"I tell you, he is always thinking about the rakyat and the country. Sometimes when I go to the prison, he would be in deep thought, saying, 'I'm thinking of what else I should have given to the people.

"That's my husband...," she said.

Najib's release was among the topics raised by delegates, and the Umno Youth Wing also honoured Najib with an award in appreciation of his contributions.
