Tributes, condolences pour in for Salahuddin

Tributes and condolences have poured in for the late Salahuddin Ayub, who passed away tonight.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the domestic trade and cost of living minister's death was a major loss.

"It is a huge loss for myself and my family. Salahuddin was steadfast in his struggle to the end of his life.

"His deeds and contributions surely can't be repaid materially," he said in a statement.

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said his deputy's death was the saddest night for all the party's members and supporters.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang also expressed his condolences.

At a Perikatan Nasional ceramah in Tanjong Karang today, the crowd recited the Al-Fatihah when the news broke.

Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin, in extending his condolences, said his successor as domestic trade minister was someone he respected.

"Even though we had different political ideologies, the late Salahuddin was a leader I respected.

"He was a leader who was mature, progressive, and pragmatic," he said on Facebook.

Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke told a Pakatan Harapan ceramah in Negeri Sembilan that Salahuddin's efforts - such as his Rahmah initiative - had truly helped the people.

Salahuddin died two days after he was rushed to a hospital in Alor Setar, where doctors detected that he had a brain haemorrhage.
