Anti-Zahid rally: PN to meet cops, moots relocating to Bukit Bintang

Perikatan Nasional Youth leaders will be meeting with police tomorrow to give a statement on their plans to stage an anti-government protest this Saturday.

PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said that he and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal will also be negotiating with the police to ensure the rally proceeds smoothly and peacefully.

In line with this, Fadhli said that PN is open to moving the protest elsewhere if the street in front of Sogo is too small.

"If Sogo is not suitable, we have discussed a change of location to Bukit Bintang, in front of Yayasan Selangor," he said.

This is at the intersection of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Bukit Bintang, near the McDonald's landmark and Lot 10.

He was responding to Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who urged the opposition to follow procedures before staging their rally.

This included giving a five-day notice to police as per the Peaceful Assembly Act.

‘Scared of rakyat rallying?’

Fadhli assured that PN will not be breaking the law, and hoped the police - whom he said they had engaged with since yesterday - would cooperate.

The Sept 16 demonstration, dubbed the "Save Malaysia Rally", is to protest against the prosecution withdrawing corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The protest is expected to take place at 2.30pm.

However, when contacted, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said the venue is still subject to change.

Meanwhile, Fadhli, at the presser today, also hoped that the government would not get in the way of the protest.

"Unless of course, they are scared of the rakyat rallying," he said.

He also claimed that PN was staging the protest to fulfil demand from the youth, who wanted to express their disappointment with Zahid's charges being withdrawn.
