Abim urges govt, opposition to sign CSA for political stability

The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) has urged the government to sign a confidence and supply agreement (CSA) with the opposition for the sake of the country's political stability.

"Abim has been paying close attention to the current political situation, which is filled with continued hostility.

"We are concerned that if this politics of hatred prolongs, the country's stability will be affected, and the rakyat will be divided," Abim president Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz said in a statement today.

According to him, both sides of the political divide should sit down and come to an agreement on matters pertaining to the economy, political stability, and calls to expedite reforms.

"The agreement is crucial to stabilize the country's politics so that the rakyat can live in harmony, without being shadowed by ‘extreme politicking’.

"Only with political stability, an effective check and balance can happen," said Faisal (above).

A CSA would enable institutional reforms to be carried out in a fast and comprehensive manner, he added.

Previously, the administration led by former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob inked a bipartisan memorandum of understanding (MOU) on political transformation and stability with Pakatan Harapan.

The MOU was intended for a political ceasefire between federal and opposition political coalitions, which saw three prime ministers in the span of three years due to political instability triggered by party-hopping and withdrawal of support by political parties to the prime minister.
