PAS MUKTAMAR | Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor holds the highest votes in his contest for a PAS central committee post for the 2023-2025 term, with 1,098 votes.
Sanusi, who is also the PAS elections director, was previously touted to contest the PAS vice-president post at the party’s 69th Muktamar over the weekend.
However, the Kedah menteri besar said he was not yet ready for the vice presidency and would rather be a party central committee member.
Sanusi is seen to be the party's rising star and was a heavy contributor to PAS’ win in the state elections in August, particularly in his own state of Kedah.
The Jeneri assemblyperson’s popularity among the party is closely followed by former PAS youth chiefs Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi at 1,042 and 1,033 votes respectively.
Fadhli is also the Pasir Mas MP and Khalil (above, right) is the son of party president Abdul Hadi Awang.
A total of 22 PAS leaders contested to become a central committee member, however only 18 won.
Among the four notable names who did not make the cut include PAS Syura council member Mahfodz Mohamed, who is also the former Dewan Ulama chief.
Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria, Penaga assemblyperson Mohd Yusni Mat Piah and Temerloh MP Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi also lost the contest.
A total of 1,356 delegates were eligible to vote for the election, of which 84.14 percent, or 1141 delegates, voted.
As expected, Hadi and incumbent deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man retained their positions for another term after winning uncontested.
Joining them are incumbent vice-presidents Idris Ahmad, Mohd Amar Abdullah, and Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar who also won the posts uncontested.
