Bid for ex-minister's Rolex reaches RM131,000

The bid for a Rolex watch belonging to former Islamic affairs minister, Zulkifli Mohamad has now reached RM131,000.

Bidding for the watch, which was a gift from King Salman Abdul Aziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia, opened yesterday at a starting price of RM40,000.

Zulkilfi said the proceeds of the sale will be channelled to relief work for Palestinian people who are suffering due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

"The latest information, at 9.33am (today), is that the highest bid stands at RM131,000," Zulkifli said on Facebook.

Zulkifli said the watch was received as a gift from the Saudi King in 2017 when he was tasked by Putrajaya, as the mufti of the Federal Territory, to represent all the muftis and scholars of Malaysia and deliver a speech in the presence of King Salman.

He added that he honoured the treasured gift and reminisced King Salman’s message to him - “remain humble, prioritise the ummah and uplift the faith”.

As for the auction, Zulkifli mentioned his move was in line with Saudi’s policy of making substantial donations towards the welfare of the Palestinian people.

"The proceeds of the bid will be fully donated to the welfare of the Palestinian people who are suffering there," he said.
