Where did all the local Beras Makmur go, asks PAS rep

A Pahang PAS leader has raised questions over the status of rice subsidised by the BN-led state government, claiming the 10kg packets were last seen sold on shelves during the Pelangai by-election.

Pahang PAS deputy commissioner Andansura Rabu claimed that Beras Makmur, launched by the state government last month, are no longer available in stores.

“Where is the subsidised Beras Makmur like the ones we saw during the Pelangai by-election? Where can we buy it?

"There was none, even at the Darul Makmur hypermart owned by Pahang Malay Customs and Islamic Council,” said the Beserah assemblyperson in a Facebook post.

Beras Makmur was launched by Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail on Oct 5, two days before polling for the Pelangai by-election.

At the time, Wan Rosdy said the state government had provided a subsidy of RM11 per packet for 5,000 10kg packets of Beras Makmur.

Run out of local rice

When contacted, Andansura reiterated that he could no longer find the brand being sold anywhere.

“I’m not sure if Beras Makmur is sold during the Jualan Rahmah programmes but based on the information I received, there isn’t any.

“The last time I saw Beras Makmur was in Pelangai, and after that not anymore,” he said.

Andansura also said six hypermarkets in Balok and Beserah have run out of local rice and the shortage has worsened over the last few months.

“Before this, there were people who said local rice can meet 60 percent of demand from hypermarkets, but if we go there, the stock is in short supply or maybe even none at all.

“What we can see is only the Jualan Rahmah at certain locations,” he said.
