The Selangor government will be consolidating the administration of Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Klang into the "Greater Klang Valley" next year.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said during his Budget 2024 speech that this will create a uniform process for licences issued by local authorities and rejuvenate mature townships.

"This will be a test bed for digital government administration for traffic and disaster management as well as unifying development in terms of building design and planning.

"A consolidated administration will hasten the transition towards public transport use and move away from private vehicles," he said.

Amirudin envisions the "Greater Klang Valley" optimising government resources, reducing redundancy and establishing a neighbourhood friendly to the elderly, disabled, and children and meeting Malaysia's low-carbon city goals.

The state will be enacting a Greater Klang Valley enactment and allocate RM2 million for this project.

Amirudin said his administration had studied similar models such as the Greater London Authority, Liverpool City Region and Tokyo Bay Area.

He said efficient administration of the Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Klang was necessary as 50 percent of the state's population reside in these areas and that the areas host most of the state's industries.
