Hadi: Youngsters support us, only 'ignorant', ‘rusty' oldies don't

KEMAMAN BY-ELECTION | PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang lauded youths for the latter’s support for the party and Perikatan Nasional in the 15th general election (GE15) and six state elections.

"God willing, in GE15 and the state elections, a wave of young voters support (happened), and youngsters aged 21, 40 (sic) supported us.

"The majority (of youths) supported us; only the old, ignorant and 'rusty' ones aged 60 and 70, did not support us, and it doesn't matter," Hadi said in his ceramah at the Civic Hall in Kijal, Kemaman, last night.

According to him, older voters often justify that their lives are better now compared to during the Japanese occupation, whenever they are urged to come out and vote.

"They don't understand politics, but the youths do, and they are with us,” Hadi added.

The ceramah was also attended by PN's candidate for the by-election, Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is also Terengganu menteri besar.

Samsuri will be facing BN candidate Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor on Dec 2.

Regardless, Hadi said PN should still try to convince older voters to support the coalition on polling day.

"We can win the police, army, civil servants and youth votes. The problem lies in the votes of the older generation.

"If you can convince the elders (to vote), please do. If it's a waste of time, then leave it."

The Marang MP also said the Kemaman by-election is the ideal time to "reject" Umno.

"This is because the Umno (contesting) now is a party that's working with DAP and PKR. A party which has neglected the Malay, Muslim struggle.

"One has to know that this Umno works with DAP, and PKR which is pragmatic, and liberal and ruins the country. We must defeat them."

It is worth noting that PAS has previously worked with DAP in a political pact three times - to face the 1999, 2008 and 2013 general elections.
