Fear of 'satanic concert' leads to shutdown over missing paperwork

A gathering of crowds dressed in black T-shirts at an outdoor camping site in Selangor sparked fears from residents that a "satanic concert" was taking place.

However, when police arrived at the scene, it was a lack of attention to the devil in the details that ultimately led to the "hardcore" music festival being shut down.

The organiser, Rumah Api, explained that it was under the impression that it had the clearances and permits to hold the “hardcore punk” festival at Kem Isi Rimba in Kemensah, Selangor.

“However, due to complaints from nearby residents who were concerned about the event, deemed a black metal or a satanic concert due to all patrons wearing black outfits, a report was lodged at Bukit Aman.

“The police came and conducted an investigation only to find out that the Kem Isi Rimba owner didn’t have the proper permit despite us paying for it upfront.

“We were promised by Kem Isi Rimba that they would prepare all documentation, however, they failed to do so due to their carelessness,” Rumah Api said on Instagram.

The two-day event, dubbed “Chaos in Rumah Api: Vol Seven” was slated to be held yesterday (Dec 9) and today - featuring local and international bands from Indonesia and Singapore.

“We are so disappointed that these kinds of (circumstances) are affecting the event.

“We would like to extend our deepest apologies to every band and patrons who came for this year’s ‘Chaos in Rumah Api’,” it said.

Rumah Api added that it would proceed with ticket refunds for patrons once it settles rental and permit refunds with Kem Isi Rimba.
