Police have arrested three of its personnel over an alleged theft of RM85,000 from a business in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week.

The incident allegedly happened when the police carried out a massive operation to net undocumented migrants in the Lebuh Pudu area on Thursday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid said they received a report on the theft early in the morning of Dec 22.

"Regarding the investigation into this case, we have arrested three police personnel aged between 26 and 35 whom we believe were involved in the missing cash incident.

"The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code and all the suspects are being remanded for four days until Dec 26," Allaudeen (above) said in a statement today.

It was reported that those arrested were from the police General Operations Force formation based in Selangor.

The three allegedly found the cash when they were conducting checks at a grocery store and took the money before dividing it amongst themselves.

Police have since recovered over RM60,000 of the missing cash, according to China Press.
