Reporter, 2 others arrested for trespassing S'gor MB residence

Three men including a reporter who allegedly works for PAS mouthpiece Harakah were arrested for trespassing the Selangor menteri besar’s official residence in Shah Alam yesterday.

The 5pm incident was noticed by police personnel on duty at the residence, who immediately apprehended the suspects.

According to a police report lodged by the residence keeper, the reporter earlier tried to walk into the residence of Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari (above) but was stopped by the cops.

After his first attempt failed, the reporter allegedly tried to sneak in by hiding inside a Proton Waja, which carried two other individuals who claimed they were going into the residence to attend a meeting.

However, the second attempt was also foiled by the cops, who inspected the sedan at the residence parking lot.

A spokesperson for the Menteri Besar’s Office confirmed the incident.

“Yes, they were arrested by police and taken to the Section 6 police station in Shah Alam yesterday for trespassing,” said the official.

It was learned that one of those arrested was a grassroots leader from a PAS division in Selangor.

Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that police have arrested three individuals for trespassing.

In a statement today, he said the police acquired a two-day remand order against the suspects to facilitate investigations.

“The three suspects aged between 31 and 35 are media practitioners who work for a local media agency.

“They claimed they were there to attend a meeting held at the Selangor MB residence, but they did not have an official invitation from the Menteri Besar Office,” he said.

According to Iqbal, the case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespassing, which carries a punishment of up to three months in jail, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.
