PAS and its leaders have urged supporters to remain calm using the hashtag #kekaltenang on social media amid the latest political rumblings that have hit the nation.

At about noon today, PAS official online pages cited #kekaltenang, which means remain calm, however, no further elaboration was provided.

There was also a video on Abdul Hadi Awang's Tiktok account with the hashtag, depicting the PAS president sitting calmly in a garden.

Again no context was provided.

The timing of the post at first appeared to coincide with tensions after DAP leader Ngeh Koo Ham became the victim of an alleged arson attack.

However, PAS Youth then posted a video with the hashtag, alleging that the majority support of a prime minister can be proved outside of the Dewan Rakyat through statutory declarations (SDs).

When contacted, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said that the hashtag was intended to tell its supporters to remain calm and not participate in provocations.

Asked if the reason behind the hashtag was related to rumours of a possible coup, Fadhli said it was a possibility.

“Perhaps. But I too do not have the confirmation. I think this ‘mood’ happened automatically, But I would need to verify,” he added.

No connection to fire

Fadhli denied there were relations between the postings and the fire at Ngeh's house.

“I think it has nothing to do (with the arson allegations). That’s a small issue, and has been settled,” he added.

Fadhli had in an earlier statement said that arson over political differences was unacceptable.

The call for calm over the purported coup comes a day after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong assured the palace would not get involved in any political manoeuvres.

Last week, incoming king Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar said he would not be granting audiences other than those already scheduled until after he is crowned Agong on Jan 31.
