Three Bersatu MPs who back Anwar say no offer to sign any SDs

Three Bersatu MPs, who previously declared their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, have denied being offered to sign any statutory declarations as part of the Dubai Move to unseat the current government.

The trio - Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, and Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman - confirmed the matter and told Malaysiakini they remained committed to supporting the Anwar administration.

“I did not receive any (offer to sign) SD and I remain committed to supporting the prime minister,” said Azizi.

Suhaili also insisted that he would not turn back on his decision to support Anwar.

“Yes, my support is 100 percent for PMX (Anwar).

“No more U-turns for me, 100 percent support for PMX,” he told Malaysiakini.

Meanwhile, Zahari also said that he did not accept any offer from any party to topple the federal coalition government.

“So far, there is no (offer), and I will continue to support PMX,” he said in a brief WhatsApp message.

For the record, the three of them are among the five Bersatu MPs who during the last Dewan Rakyat session had expressed support for Anwar.

Two others are Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal.

‘We have the numbers’

In recent days, certain Perikatan Nasional leaders had claimed the federal opposition was ready to take over the government as it has enough MPs backing it to form a majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

Among others, Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is also PN election director, claimed that it was only a matter of time before the federal government fell.

Sanusi, who did not reveal an exact figure, claimed the numbers were gained through the signing of statutory declarations.

The allegations emerged after speculations on a purported Dubai Move that was said to have been masterminded by opposition leaders with the help of certain government lawmakers.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the Dubai Move as a failure because the federal government has the support of 150 MPs.
