PAS not an 'extremist, village' party, says Samsuri

PAS is not an extremist party akin to the Taliban, or 'village' party, according to its vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

On the contrary, the Islamist party understands the structure of the society that encompasses multiple races and religions, he said.

"There is a notion that PAS is an extremist party and has a prejudice against it, by likening it to other Islamic parties in the world. This is false.

"In Malaysia, we understand the structure of multiple ethnicities and religions, and PAS is a relevant party that can be accepted by all races in the country," the Terengganu menteri besar said on Facebook today.

Samsuri added that PAS now has the potential to become a modern Islamist party.

"We realise that to make our country the best, we all have to work together as Malaysians.

"Likening PAS to Taliban is a mistake. PAS is no longer a 'village' party, and it is now more than a party.

"We have come this far and will keep marching forward," wrote the Kemaman MP.

He stressed that PAS may not be a "perfect party", but with the backing of supporters from all walks of life, the party will remain relevant.
