PKR suspends Ginie Lim as Alor Gajah chief for a year

The PKR central leadership council has suspended Ginie Lim as the Alor Gajah division chief for a year from Jan 7 for going against the party's constitution.

Malacca PKR secretary Muhammad Asri Ibrahim confirmed the matter when contacted by Malaysiakini.

"I can confirm that Lim's position as the division chief has been suspended for 12 months.

"The decision was made by the party's disciplinary committee on Jan 7, and the central leadership sent a notice of the suspension to the Malacca PKR leadership on Jan 29," he said.

However, Asri stressed that Lim remains an ordinary member of the party.

It is learnt that on Feb 4 last year, the PKR disciplinary committee, via a Zoom meeting, asked Lim (above) to explain a statement to Malaysiakini on Oct 25, 2022, in which the Alor Gajah PKR urged the Pakatan Harapan leadership to field her in the parliamentary seat for the 15th general election.

This statement was said to have gone against the party leadership's decision.

Lim was also accused of questioning the matter concerning the Alor Gajah parliamentary seat by sharing screenshots of a conversation involving party vice-president Rafizi Ramli on social media.

Other offences

In addition, Lim allegedly led members of the Alor Gajah PKR division to act provocatively during a party programme in Sungai Petai on Oct 25, 2022, by asking them to dress in T-shirts bearing her face and naming her as Harapan's Alor Gajah candidate.

The group also reportedly put up banners saying “Support Ginie Lim for Alor Gajah”.

Lim is a former Malacca exco member and former Machap Jaya assemblyperson. She was dropped from the line-up during the state election in 2021.

She previously courted trouble with the PKR central leadership, including for causing a Malacca government motion to be defeated by a single vote in the state assembly.

The motion was to nominate Malacca PKR chief Halim Bachik, who is reportedly aligned with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, as a senator representing the state.

Meanwhile, Alor Gajah PKR committee member Abdul Rashid Dahaban has also been suspended from the party for campaigning for a Perikatan Nasional candidate in the 15th general election.

Alor Gajah PKR deputy chief Badrohisham Omar and committee member Denesh Palasubramaniam have been served with warnings after they were found guilty of issuing statements that went against the party leadership during GE15.
