PARLIAMENT | Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Ramli Mohd Nor has advised Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan to lodge a police report over claims of "harassment" by the MACC.

Ramli's advice came after Wan Saiful alleged harassment by the MACC, seeking to record his statement regarding his speech in the Dewan Rakyat.

"I continuously face disturbances from the authorities, especially the MACC.

"I've just received a notice to record my statement about what I mentioned in this honourable house," he told the Dewan Rakyat today.

Wan Saiful (above) highlighted the immunity or inviolability MPs enjoy from civil proceedings for any petition or motion raised in the house, as outlined in Section 7 of the Parliament (Privileges and Powers) Act.

Hence, he argued, no party can intervene in matters conclusively decided by the speaker, including speeches made in the house.

"When faced with such disturbances, it feels like undue pressure on MPs," he remarked.

On Feb 28, Wan Saiful claimed he was offered a RM1.7 million allocation for his constituency in return for supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Following this, MACC chief Azam Baki asserted that anyone alleging a bribe offer bears the responsibility to report immediately for further action.

The MACC then gave Wan Saiful a week to come forward with a report.
